What is it and what is it for?

Betadine gel is a broad spectrum antiseptic, antibacterial (bactericidal), antifungal (fungicide), antiviral, antiprotozoal, sporicidal.

Antiseptic and skin disinfectant for general use, small wounds and superficial cuts, minor burns or grazes.

How to use?

The application mode of Betadine gel is as follows:

  • Wash your hands well.
  • Wash the wound with saline solution or water and neutral antiseptic soap. Dry without rubbing.
  • If bleeding occurs, apply pressure with a sterile gauze until it disappears.
  • Apply directly to the affected surface, 1-3 times/day.
  • After application, it is advisable to cover the area with gauze.

Composition

Each g of Betadine gel contains: 100mg of povidone-iodine

Excipients: macrogol 400, macrogol 4000, macrogol 6000 and purified water.

Warnings and Contraindications

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not eat. External use. Avoid contact with eyes, ears and other mucous membranes.

It does not require any special storage conditions. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiration date is the last day of the month indicated.

If used in preparation before an operation, avoid accumulation under the patient. It can cause irritation and rarely serious skin reactions.

Chemical burns can occur on the skin due to the accumulation. In that case, discontinue use. Do not heat before applying it.

Patients with goiter, thyroid nodules, or other non-acute thyroid diseases are at risk of hyperthyroidism with the administration of high amounts of iodine. In these patients, it should not be applied for prolonged periods of time and on large areas of skin unless strictly indicated.

It should not be used before or after radioactive iodine scintigraphy or treatment of thyroid carcinoma with radioactive iodine.

Do not use with mercurial derivatives, silver, hydrogen peroxide or taurolidine (antiseptics).

Continued use should be avoided in patients receiving simultaneous therapy with lithium (used in psychiatry).
